What is Inpatient Drug Rehab?

Inpatient Drug Rehab Program

An inpatient drug rehab gives you the time to solely focus on your recovery.

Inpatient drug rehab is a rehab program wherein the patient is provided with 24 hour care at a live-in facility. An inpatient rehab includes both mental and physical health programs and professionals. The health benefits, such as constant medical supervision, offered at an inpatient facility are the main difference between in and outpatient treatment. Patients are able to take advantage of these services on a round the clock basis, which is often necessary when detoxing from an addictive substance. Patients often stay at an inpatient program for 30 days or more at a time.

Inpatient Drug Rehab vs. Outpatient Drug Rehab

Outpatient differs from inpatient treatment in that with outpatient rehab, the addict, or patient, is responsible for going to treatment on a regular basis as opposed to living in a facility where treatment is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Outpatient rehab is definitely beneficial for someone who wants to get help, but is still resposible for work, school, family, etc. Outpatient rehab generally involves therapy for the addiction, sometimes offered as family therapy, but does not delve deeply into medical conditions or nutritional needs that may be contributing to the addiction.

Benefits of Inpatient Drug Rehab

With inpatient drug rehab the patient has the benefits of round the clock care. Additionally, unlike outpatient drug rehab, physical health care is offered in addition to therapy. Oftentimes, you will find that there are underlying health issues related to the addictive behavior, and with inpatient treatment these issues can be treated more easily than in outpatient treatment. With inpatient treatment, the focus is on recover 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. There are no distractions from outside influence, just recovery around the clock. Doctors and physical and mental health care professionals are always on staff to provide assistance.

Cost of Inpatient Drug Rehab

It is true that inpatient drug rehabs cost more than outpatient centers, but that is no reason to avoid this form of treatment. There is no denying that the cost of living has went up for everyone. Housing prices have risen, food bills have grown expenentially and not to mention the medical professionals that are on staff round the clock to care for patients at inpatient drug rehabs. The benefits that come with this form of treatment though, far outweigh the costs. Inpatient treatments have been proven to be incredibly successful in treating addictions.
